Biography
Kansas City stoner rock trio Mythical Beast aligned with the psychedelic revival led by Black Mountain and Wooden Shjips, generating heavy, rumbling textures and dark, atmospheric doomscapes anchored by frontwoman Corinne—a wild-eyed blonde whose Nico looks paired with witch-like vocals. During spring 2007, following their appearance at the inaugural Diamond Days Fest in New York, Greg Weeks attended the performance and extended an invitation for the band to sign with Language of Stone, his Drag City imprint. That May the group tracked its debut in just ten days inside Weeks’ Hexham Head studio in Philadelphia, relying exclusively on analog equipment—an MCI 2" tape machine and a DDA mixing console—to capture an authentic ’70s tone. Retaining its Sabbath-inspired atmosphere, Scales appeared on October 21, 2008, coinciding with the first release from Language of Stone’s similarly oriented act Heavy Hands.
