Nanyana

Centered on the assured singing of Nanyana Summer, the five-member group Nanyana fuses woman-centered alternative rock with electric blues reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Raised in a household tied to the military, Summer encountered quiet storm R&B from the 1980s along with Thai pop during her childhood years. In her local area, she formed a group consisting entirely of girls, making her affinity for alternative rock stand out prominently. After relocating to Atlanta, she developed a connection with Stuck Mojo, resulting in her appearance in their video for "Pig Walk." She also connected with Speech from Arrested Development, who motivated her to take the stage and contributed to crafting some of her initial compositions. However, upon encountering the individuals who would become her fellow musicians in Nanyana, assembling a collection of tracks became the next step. They practiced and laid down recordings through 2001, leading to the issuance of their self-titled first album.
