Virginia-based singer/songwriter Naomi Alligator crafts charming lo-fi folk material marked by spare arrangements and a self-reliant spirit. A succession of modest independent singles preceded her signing to Carpark Records, which released the 2021 EP Concession Stand Girl and, one year afterward, her first full-length album, Double Knot.

While enrolled in cinematography and new media studies at the University of Virginia, Corrinne James began issuing recordings under the Naomi Alligator pseudonym. Having started on piano in childhood, she later took up guitar and banjo specifically to develop original material. Her range of touchstones stretches from Liz Phair’s confessional indie rock to traditional folk figures such as Joan Baez and the British group Steeleye Span. The unadorned home recordings she produced gained notice by the late 2010s, prompting a contract with Carpark that expanded the audience for Concession Stand Girl. Following multiple singles and shorter releases, James issued her debut album, Double Knot, in July 2022.
