Biography
Hailing from Gladwin, Michigan, Nate Feuerstein records and performs as NF, a composer and rapper in the Christian hip-hop field. Difficult circumstances marked his upbringing after his parents split, his mother’s partner inflicted physical abuse, and his mother later took her own life. He found refuge in music and started capturing tracks on a karaoke machine by routing instrumentals through one microphone and laying his raps across the other. After finishing second in a national Fine Arts Festival rap contest in 2008 and winning first place in Michigan the next year, he issued his debut album, Moments, on his own in 2010. Xist Music noticed the project and offered a recording contract in 2012, the same year Feuerstein began using NF as his stage name. Although the label announced plans for an EP that year, the project never surfaced, and NF and Xist ended their association. During the following two years he continued searching for a label while working in the studio with local producer Tommee Profitt; together they created the track “Wake Up,” which prompted Capitol Christian Music Group to sign him. Late in the summer of 2014, CMG put out a self-titled EP containing six songs, among them a Manny Marroquin remix of “Wake Up.”
