Nattali Rize, an Australian vocalist, guitarist, and composer, crafts politically charged pop and rock that draws heavily on reggae traditions. Born in Byron Bay, she initially performed under the name Natalie Pa'apa'a and launched her career busking alongside partner Carlo Santone in the group Skin. The couple relocated to Melbourne in 2004 and assembled the eight-piece roots-and-reggae outfit Blue King Brown, with whom they recorded and toured for more than a decade. After moving to Jamaica in 2014, Pa'apa'a turned her attention to solo work and chose the stage name Nattali Rize, which she has stated draws from the Native American word "natt" meaning "speaker" as well as Bob Marley's song "Rise Up." In 2015 she teamed with the reggae collective Notis to issue her first EP, New Era Frequency, whose single "Rebel Love" appeared on the project. Two years afterward came her debut full-length album, Rebel Frequency, which welcomed guest spots from Julian Marley, Raging Fyah, and additional artists.
