Biography
Operating out of San Francisco, this ensemble of seasoned improvisers pushes sonic boundaries under the name Natto Quartet. Their distinctive setup features Philip Gelb on shakuhachi alongside Shoko Hikage's koto, pianist Chris Brown, and Tim Perkis handling electronics. Prior to Brown's inclusion, Gelb, Hikage, and Perkis had already collaborated as Trio Natto. Captured live during a 2002 performance at the Headlands Center for the Arts, the event yielded their debut release, Headlands, issued one year later.
