Biography
Neïmo stands out as a spirited French rock outfit that fuses the raw punch of new wave with the polished sheen of electronic pop. Uncommon among acts from their country, the group delivers the bulk of its material in English. Bruno Alexandre supplies the lead vocals, Camille Troillard handles guitar, Matthieu Joly works the keyboards, and Alexis Hadefi powers the drums.
The band first drew notice in France with its debut album, From Scratch, which appeared in 2005. The hook-laden, high-octane collection was cut live in the studio across only two days and came out on the independent Big Fields label. Despite the self-released status, the record gained unexpected traction through rotation on leading French rock stations and a string of successful European tours.
Their insistence on English lyrics nevertheless curtailed domestic media exposure and blocked any major-label contract in France. The decision proved advantageous once the music began drawing notice in the United States, where Neïmo secured a deal with Shangri-La Music in 2007. The musicians arrived in New York City late that year to perform several shows and gain visibility on the local club circuit. Their second album is scheduled for international release in spring 2008, followed by further American dates.
