Biography
Nefertiti Jones fuses the modern tones associated with Shawn Colvin, Emmylou Harris’s raw edge, and Minnie Riperton’s elegance into her signature urban folk sound. Born and raised in New York City, Jones launched her musical journey at eight years old through performances with the Children’s Musical Theater. She honed her abilities during her time at the acclaimed LaGuardia High School of Music and Art, where her polished voice paved the way for a professional path as a singer and songwriter. Throughout the late 1990s, she displayed her unique approach in various San Francisco venues. In 1998, she secured performances alongside Lilith Fair and released her first album, Still Time. With the arrival of the 2000s, Jones returned to her Manhattan residence and explored a fresh performance circuit. Her appearances included the 2001 CMJ Music Festival as well as shows at Brownies and Joe’s Pub, where she previewed tracks from her second album, Here and Now.
