Detroit's self-styled "Queen of R&B Trap" Neisha Neshae rose above an abusive upbringing, her mother's imprisonment, and eventual passing to build a professional path that led to a major-label contract. A standout high-school basketball athlete, she turned to music following her mother's death as an outlet for processing hardship. After leaving school, she issued a mixtape and an EP on her own while employed at Taco Bell. In 2016, at age 19, her breakthrough arrived with the single "On a Cloud," which detailed her rise above difficult circumstances. Crafted by Detroit producer Helluva, the atmospheric, psychedelic track drenched in Auto-Tune highlighted her smooth, soulful voice and became a major local radio success, securing her spots at two prominent hometown showcase performances. Subsequent releases such as "Fuck U Mean," "Boss Up," "I'ma Go Crazy," and "White Sticks" demonstrated her skills as an emcee, marked by a tight, insistent delivery and sharp, confrontational rhymes. Although she missed an opening-act opportunity with Beyoncé, backstage connections introduced her to fellow Detroit native Big Sean, who offered guidance and friendship and later included her on his I Decided tour. She joined Virgin EMI in 2017, with a debut album helmed by Sean scheduled for release before year's end.
