Biography
Nels Andrews, a singer and songwriter whose formative years involved spending time among dubious associates, put out his debut record Sunday Shoes on an independent basis during 2005. Critical acclaim followed quickly, with BBC Radio offering early praise for the project. Building on that reception, Andrews secured appearances at major European festivals, all while holding down steady employment in construction back home in Albuquerque. He later entered into an agreement with Reveal Records and assembled an indie all-star ensemble featuring Ani DiFranco bassist Todd Sickafoose, Wilco keyboardist Michael Jorgensen, and drummer Ben Perowsky, whose résumé includes work with Joan as Police Woman, Elysian Fields, and John Zorn. Together they tracked and issued the follow-up album Off Track Betting, which arrived in February of 2008.
