Biography
Nelson Alves, a skilled cavaquinho player, joined the Grupo de Chiquinha Gonzaga alongside Tute and Antônio Mariz dos Passos. He ranked among the founding members of Oito Batutas when the ensemble formed in 1919. Alves further contributed to Pixinguinha’s earliest recordings while holding a spot in the Guarda Velha collective.
