Biography
Netsanet Mellesse launched her career as primary vocalist for the Wallias Band, whose reputation flourished through repeated engagements at the hotels and clubs of Addis Ababa—establishments that functioned as the city’s chief performance sites in place of formal concert halls. As part of the younger cohort of Ethiopian singers, she merges elements drawn from Western, Indian, and broader African traditions into her own style. Her performances have appeared on Shanachie releases, among them a track featured on the collection Holding up Half the Sky.
