Biography
Never Enough emerged from a meeting of three figures active in the underground heavy metal scene: vocalist-guitarist Norman Matthew, guitarist Keith Barney, and drummer Trevor Friedrich. Matthew had previously fronted the El Paso, TX, outfit Lylah, whose blend of metal and goth earned them a devoted audience. During Lylah’s stint on the Vans Warped Tour, he connected with Barney and Friedrich, whose band Eighteen Visions delivered a fierce hardcore style that resonated with alternative metal listeners. After Eighteen Visions dissolved in spring 2007—shortly following the release of their first major-label album—Barney and Friedrich sought a fresh outlet and aligned with Matthew to create Never Enough. The new trio fused Lylah’s melodic sensibilities with Eighteen Visions’ intensity while adding a layer of electronic production gloss. They quickly signed to the independent hard rock imprint Corporate Punishment, issuing their self-titled debut on November 20, 2007, and staged their inaugural concert weeks afterward at a record store in Orange County, CA.
