Biography
In the midst of grunge's dominance during the early 1990s, New Fast Automatic Daffodils carved out a presence within Manchester, England's indie rock landscape. The band's core instrumental lineup—bassist Justin Crawford, guitarist Dolan Hewison, and drummer Perry Saunders—formed in 1988, with vocalist Andy Spearpoint completing the group shortly thereafter. The dream-like essence of NFAD's sound stemmed from Spearpoint's enigmatic lyrics delivered atop looping riffs and rhythms. In contrast to contemporaries focused on projecting personal turmoil globally, the group prioritized crafting danceable, atmospheric grooves infused with spacey elements. Their productivity during this period yielded three albums, five EPs, and ten singles across approximately four years.
