Biography
New Risen Throne ranks among the leading acts in the specialized realm of dark ambient music, with the Italian project delivering profound, enveloping, and unsettling sonic environments across nearly two decades. Stiehl, born Gabriele Panci in Rome, conceived the endeavor that first surfaced in 2002 through the self-issued demo Prophet. Multiple CD-R albums then appeared on small independent labels Alarming Echo Beats and God Is Myth over the following years, bearing striking titles such as Flowing Ashes (2003), Chants for the Cold and Dying Sun (2004), and Along Endless Path of Emptiness (2004) that reflect their contents of frigid, barren drones evoking arctic winds, laced with ethereal murmurs and the rattle of dungeon chains. Infinite Fog Productions later gathered those early recordings into a four-disc self-titled box set released in 2016. Split releases with Locust Reign and Cruel Harvest also emerged during this phase. The project's first full studio album arrived in 2007 as Whispers of the Approaching Wastefulness, initiating a sustained collaboration with Cyclic Law, a major dark ambient imprint. Further albums followed with Crossing the Withered Regions (2009) and Loneliness of Hidden Structures (2011), after which an eight-year silence ensued. New Risen Throne reemerged via a guest spot on fellow Cyclic Law artist Neraterræ's 2019 album The Substance of Perception, then issued its seventh album, The Outside, the subsequent year as a keenly awaited event within the dark ambient community.
