Biography
NG La Banda emerged in 1988 under the leadership of flutist José Luis Cortés and earned recognition as probably the best and most exciting Cuban dance group of the 1990s. The ensemble drew on numerous accomplished players who had previously performed with Irakere and Los Van Van, earning acclaim for its focus on precise rhythms and its forceful horn lineup, which acquired the nickname Terror Brass. Releases appeared on the RCA, Milan, Artex, and QBA imprints. José Luis Cortés died on April 18, 2022 in Havana at the age of 70.
