South Carolina rapper NGeeYL rose swiftly from independent regional status to partnerships with prominent producers and veteran artists once listeners embraced his dark instrumentals and drugged-out delivery. Following his deal with 300 Entertainment, he joined Yung Nudy and Valee on the 2019 project Hiatus.

Born in Spartansburg, South Carolina, NGeeYL had already generated local attention for his trappy sound by his late teens. The 2017 singles “Torch” and “Bartel” circulated as modest regional successes. Visibility increased the following year when he dropped “Slime Shit,” a Pi’erre Bourne-produced cut that included a Yung Nudy cameo. After issuing several singles and EPs, the artist secured his 300 Entertainment contract and unveiled the 2018 mixtape Tales of YL. He returned in 2019 with the single “Diddibop Gang,” then dropped Hiatus in October, the strongest mixtape he had released to date.
