Biography
Following studies at the Milan Conservatory, Castiglioni pursued graduate-level work at the Salzburg Mozarteum. Several years of teaching across the USA ended when illness required his relocation back to Italy in 1969, an event that curtailed the rate of his compositional activity. An intellectual orientation marks his music, which progressed from a late-Romantic idiom through Webernian serialism toward refined ornamental works. Instrumental and vocal scores form the bulk of his catalog, among them the 1980 opera Oberon.
