Nice & Wild first appeared in 1986, recording under that name along with alternate spellings such as Nice 'N Wild and Nice and Wild, when they issued the single "Diamond Girl," a standout Latin freestyle club success of the period. Joe Granda and Marvin "Pretty Boy" Floyd produced the track, which originated on the Hialeah Gardens, Florida division of Top Hits before Atlantic, a major label, licensed it for wider release and mainstream exposure. That same recording appeared on the 1987 album Energy, Love and Unity, the sole Atlantic LP issued by the group. Vocals were credited to Bobby Chapman, John Minnis, Remy Palacios, Reggie Pierre, and David Torres, along with Granda and fellow producer Gary Henry, who also supplied the bulk of the album’s instrumental work. The act returned briefly in 1996 for a follow-up LP titled Infatuation that again featured contributions from Granda and Minnis.
