Night Crickets

Featuring David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, Victor DeLorenzo from Violent Femmes, and multi-instrumentalist Darwin Meiners, the inventive art pop project Night Crickets surfaced in 2021. Its style fuses folk-tinged post-punk, knotty experimental rock, and nocturnal indie pop. The trio came together out of creative necessity after previously joining forces with Meiners, the San Francisco-born artist who manages David J, for his 2014 album Souvenir. During the 2021 lockdown they exchanged audio files to assemble material for their first record. They adopted the name Night Crickets after an anecdote from the sound designer on David Lynch’s 2001 neo-noir mystery Mulholland Drive, and under that banner they issued the evocative A Free Society in 2022.
