Biography
Night in Gales emerged at the start of 1995 in Vorede, Germany, as part of a fresh wave of death metal acts that fused the style’s raw turbulence and gritty vocals with time-honored, tightly constructed riffs and an unexpected melodic streak. A few months after assembling, the group cut its debut demo Sylphlike, whose quality secured a worldwide agreement with Nuclear Blast. The resulting first album, Toward the Twilight, surfaced in 1997 and earned Night in Gales a support slot beside stylistic reference point In Flames. Late in 1998 the follow-up Thunderbeast arrived, showing the musicians tightening their overall method. Vocalist Bjorn Goobes, guitarists Jens Basten and Frank Basten, bassist Tobias Bruchmann, and drummer Christian Bab resurfaced in 2000 with Nailwork, the band’s third full-length release.
