Niobe

Yvonne Cornelius, born in Frankfurt to a German father and Venezuelan mother, has lived in Cologne since 1994 and adopted the stage name Niobe after the mythological daughter of Tantalus, king of Sipylos, who petrified from grief after losing her children. Frequent work with Mouse on Mars included a notable appearance on their album Radical Connector. Her first solo outing, Radioersatz, appeared on Tomlab Records in 2001, and subsequent shows in Germany, France, and Mexico widened her following. The Sonig label, also based in Cologne, released her next two records, Tse Tse in 2003 and Voodooluba in 2004. She returned to Tomlab for White Hats, issued across Europe on June 26, 2006, and in the U.S. on October 31, 2006. Further albums arrived through the 2010s, among them Blackbird’s Echo in 2009 and Child of Paradise in 2014.
