Biography
In 1987 Dick Kemper, the former bassist of Vandenberg, put together a melodic rock quartet in Holland. Guitarist Geert Scheigrond, singer Leen Barbier and drummer Nico Groen completed the group, which promptly secured a contract with Phonogram Records and released its first album, Too Hard Too Handle, in 1988. On the follow-up No Exqze, Kemper was finally able to explore his own songwriting without the restrictions he had encountered in Vandenberg—not without good reason, it might be argued. Tony Platt produced the record, whose sound centered on Barbier’s soulful vocals, giving extra weight and personality to Kemper’s largely routine AOR material.
