Hip-hop devotee Adam John Grandmaison established No Jumper in 2011, at first running it solely as a blog that critiqued albums by rising talents in the underground rap scene. The operation shifted in 2015 to a video-and-podcast format, quickly becoming one of underground hip-hop culture’s most prominent standard-bearers through Grandmaison’s—widely recognized as Adam22—ability to spotlight emerging acts via compelling conversations. In 2018 Adam22 declared his intention to grow the No Jumper name past podcasting by launching a label jointly with Atlantic Records. That imprint opened its catalog with singles showcasing developing artists, beginning in June 2018 with “Hard,” which featured Tay-K and BlocBoy JB, then continuing several months later with “Rivals,” which featured KILLY and Smooky Margielaa. On both tracks the guest rappers supplied charged verses atop stark, abrasive instrumentals.
