Biography
Irish synth-metal trio No Spill Blood originated in early 2011 when several musicians active in the local experimental rock community launched the group as a side venture. Bassist and vocalist Matt Hedigan of Hands Up Who Wants to Die joined forces with Adebisi Shank drummer Larry Kaye and Ruadhan O'Meara, the synth player from Magic Pockets; the three began through informal jam sessions that drew influence from electro-punk pioneers such as Killing Joke and Six Finger Satellite alongside metal outfits like the Melvins. Their moniker came from a passage in H.G. Wells' novel The Island of Dr. Moreau—the identical source that had supplied Devo with its name many years before. As the participants balanced the effort alongside their primary bands, No Spill Blood gradually assumed a more permanent status. The apocalyptic debut album Street Meat appeared on Sargent House in 2012. Larry Kaye later stepped aside for Ror Conaty on drums, yet he remained in the studio to handle percussion during the writing and recording of the follow-up Heavy Electricity, which Sargent House issued in early spring 2015.
