The moniker No UFO's derives from Model 500's landmark 1985 Detroit techno recording by Juan Atkins and serves as the project name for Konrad Jandavs, the Canadian experimental musician behind the Nice Up International label. Magnetic tape, rare synthesizers, drum machines, guitars, and field recordings form the basis of his output, which yields erratic sonic collages traversing submerged dub, abstract techno, luminous ambience, and space rock. Live appearances have included bills with Demdike Stare, Dopplereffekt, Loscil, and further artists. The project first appeared in 2010 through a pair of cassettes, Soft Coast on Nice Up and Mind Control via Dub Ditch Picnic. Spectrum Spools issued Soft Coast on vinyl in 2011, and Public Information released the 12" EP Mind Controls the Flood the same year. Nice Up followed with the two volumes of MPC Tracks EPs in 2012 and 2013. Remixes of tracks by Altar Eagle and Jon Hassell resulted, the latter appearing on a 2014 12" EP and within the triple-CD reissue of the 1990 album City: Works of Fiction. Root Strata issued Nu LP for RS in 2017, regarded by Jandavs as his first genuine full-length because Soft Coast had begun life as a demo cassette.
