Biography
Born in the United States, King rose to prominence in the 1930s and early 1940s by delivering blues material with distinctive flair while building a relaxed connection with listeners. She cut sides with Mary Lou Williams in the mid-1940s, yet the bulk of her later output paired her with spouse Lawrence Lucie. Early in her career she sang and made records under a confusing assortment of names that included Lenore King, Lenore Kinsey, Susan King and Susan Lenore King.
