Biography
The Norrbotten Big Band operates as a large modern jazz ensemble from its base in Lulea, Northern Sweden. For more than two decades the group has operated under multiple artistic directors, among them composer, arranger, and conductor Örjan Fahlström from 1989 to 1996 and post-bop trumpeter Tim Hagans from 1996 onward. Guest soloists drawn from international circles regularly join the band, which has issued numerous recordings such as its untitled 1996 project, Future North in 1998, and the 2009 Grammy-nominated The Avatar Sessions: The Music of Tim Hagans that showcases trumpeter Randy Brecker, saxophonist George Garzone, drummer Peter Erskine, and additional contributors.
