Biography
December 1997 saw North of America coalesce in the wake of State Champs and the Motes dissolving. Personnel drawn from both earlier groups came together in the Halifax-based quartet, merging pop-punk hooks with layered math-rock constructions and Chapel Hill-influenced indie textures. Matlock Records issued the group’s debut EP, Elements of an Incomplete Map, inside the first six months. The next year brought the full-length These Songs Are Cursed on the same imprint.
