Biography
New York quartet Nortonk crafts exploratory improvisational jazz, drawing from the free-bop and avant-garde explorations exemplified by Ornette Coleman alongside the lyrical approach heard in Gerry Mulligan’s piano-less groups.
The ensemble showcases trumpeter Thomas Killackey, alto saxophonist Gideon Forbes, bassist Stephen Pale, and drummer Steven Crammer. Formed partly in tribute to their longtime instructor, the respected drummer Kevin Norton, the musicians first united during their studies at William Paterson College in New Jersey. Their self-titled debut, Nortonk, appeared on Biophilia Records in 2021.
