Not Drowning, Waving

Formed in 1983 by vocalist and keyboardist David Bridie alongside guitarist John Phillips, the six-piece Australian outfit Not Drowning, Waving went on to issue a total of seven albums. The lineup reached its full complement by 1985 when bassist Rowan McKinnon, drummers Russell Bradley and James Southall, and soundman Tim Cole joined the existing core, shaping the group’s atmospheric alt-pop identity. Claim arrived in 1990 as the band’s first American release, with Tabaran and Circus appearing in the years that followed.
