Biography
Nothin' Fancy originated during 1994 in Lexington within Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, delivering sharp, roots-oriented bluegrass that stretches across classic numbers into earthy Americana, as well as reflective folk selections up to vigorous, high-spirited numbers.
Comprising vocalist and tunesmith Mike Andes, who handles mandolin, guitars, and lead vocals, along with Gary Farris on guitar, Tony Shorter on bass, Chris Sexton on fiddle and cello, and Mitchell Davis on pencillo and banjo, the ensemble first assembled specifically to compete in a band contest that they ultimately claimed. Following roughly ten years of shared road work and performances, Nothin' Fancy issued their first album, Once Upon a Road, via Pinecastle Records in June of 2002. Crafted with care by award-winning producer Don Rigsby, the disc merges standout instrumental work, spiritual themes, and warm appeal into a homage to America's core character and heritage.
