The Texas quartet Notions fused nu-metal and metalcore into a ferocious strain of djent-tinged rock they termed nu-metalcore. Their sound, built on downtuned guitars, scream-singing, and sporadic rap verses, surfaced with an official debut in early 2018. One year after that arrival, the group signed to Stay Sick Recordings and delivered their inaugural release, Stay Away.

Austin serves as home base for the four-piece lineup of vocalist Kalan Beal, guitarist Nick Hyatt, bassist Koda Pratt, and drummer Thomas Scheltema. Having formed in 2017, the band issued its first single, "Persona," in early 2018. Following the Stay Sick Recordings deal, they staged their initial live performance and shared bills with Fit for a King, Like Moths to Flames, and Currents. The subsequent singles "Wild Card" and "Outer Haven" paved the way for the full-length debut Stay Away in 2019.
