Nude Beach crafts roadtrip-ready indie rock laced with punk edges and blue-collar roots, drawing equally from Exploding Hearts and Tom Petty. Singer/guitarist Chuck Betz, drummer/singer Ryan Naideau, and bassist Jim Shelton formed the trio while still in high school in Newport, New York, then moved to Brooklyn and adopted the Nude Beach name by 2008—distinct from the Philadelphia group that later became Cough Cool. The band issued a self-titled cassette on its own imprint that year and spent 2009 gigging throughout New York alongside Used Kids, TacocaT, and Tenement. Its self-titled LP appeared on the Mandible label in 2010, coinciding with the first nationwide tour. Amid a busy 2011 touring slate, Nude Beach put out a split 7" with Marvin Berry & the New Sound plus a live cassette, then marked the arrival of 2012 by celebrating its 100th show. That spring the band hit the road with the Men and delivered its second album, II; it soon signed to Other Music Recording Company, which reissued the record in August. In 2014 Nude Beach partnered with the New Jersey-based punk indie imprint Don Giovanni Records, which brought out the double-length third album '77 that fall.
