Biography
Nurse & Soldier unites Oneida's Bobby Matador with his longtime partner Erica Fletcher, who performs under the name Rockie. Prior to Oneida's formation, the project's early noise rock experiments emerged in the late '90s from the remnants of the duo's earlier band, Karaoke Hustler. Their six-song EP appeared briefly on Trifectaa Records during spring 1999. Two years afterward, Nurse & Soldier released the sixteen-track album Ancient History, after which the act faded from indie rock view. Matador and Fletcher married and started a family in the interim, though Matador kept up his recording and live work with Oneida while Fletcher completed graduate studies. Several years passed, including a 2004 relocation from Brooklyn to Boston, before the pair returned to their enigmatic psych pop sound. The long-delayed follow-up Marginalia surfaced in January 2007 on Oneida's Brah Records through Jagjaguwar, with supplementary contributions from Jake Bailey on guitar, organ, and drums plus Oneida's Kid Millions.
