Biography
O Terço ranked among Brazil's leading rock acts throughout the 1970s. Formed in 1968, the ensemble has endured under the steady leadership of guitarist Sérgio Hinds while weaving together gutsy rock & roll, prog rock, folk rock, heavy metal, and funk. Its original lineup also featured drummer Vinícius Cantuária, who later pursued a career as a composer and solo performer. The band issued its debut LP in 1970, yet reached its creative peak with the 1975 release of the third album, Criaturas da Noite; Rogério Duprat supplied the arrangements, and the record moved 500,000 copies. At the time the roster also comprised Sérgio Magrão and Flávio Venturini, the latter of whom departed in 1979 to establish 14 Bis. During the 1980s O Terço began appearing in both the U.S. and Europe, which ultimately gave the group's catalog greater recognition outside Brazil than at home. In 1994 the musicians documented Live at the Pallace with a symphonic orchestra under the direction of Rogério Duprat.
