Biography
A striking illustration of musical cooperation across European borders, Obiat originated in the Polish town of Szczecin, where local guitarist Rafal Reutt joined forces with bassist Alessandro Nervo. By the close of the 1990s the pair had moved the project to London, England, completing the lineup with British drummer Neil Dawson and Hungarian-born singer Lazlo Pallagi. Their recordings nevertheless conjure an atmosphere far removed from any single locale, as the 2002 release Accidentally Making Enemies and its 2005 successor Emotionally Driven Disturbulance roamed freely across stoner/doom metal, artsy prog, psychedelia, and space rock. That same refusal to follow prevailing currents shaped the band’s third album, Eye Tree Pi, their debut on the American imprint Small Stone, which reached listeners in September 2009.
