Originating in the Czech Republic, Oblomov began shaping their astronomical black metal in 2000 through the efforts of Honza Vanek on vocals, guitars, and drums, Pavel Dlabaja on guitars and vocals, and Martin Hora on bass, keyboards, programming, saxophone, and further instruments. One year after formation the trio finished their debut demo, Final Destination, and the 2003 EP Wishing the Renaissance opened the door to their first full-length release, 2005’s Mighty Cosmic Dances. The album blended regimented, quasi-industrial black metal in the vein of Samael or Anaal Nathrakh with lyrics shaped by science fiction authors including Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg.
