The solo endeavor Óbó originated with multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Björn Ólafsson, whose earlier contributions established him as a supporting performer alongside Sigur Rós and Jónsi. Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, Ólafsson earned recognition throughout his native country primarily through his roles on percussion and keyboards. He pursued studies in piano and composition across multiple European cities while also co-authoring pieces alongside Emiliana Torrini, múm, Sigur Rós, and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Although these collaborations occupied much of his time, Ólafsson waited until 2014 before issuing his debut solo recording, the melancholic and ethereal Innhverfi. That same year brought a performance slot at Iceland Airwaves, the country’s flagship music gathering.
