Biography
Obree Daman, a Senegalese vocalist and guitarist, first drew widespread notice in 2016 through his appearance as a contestant on the French-language African edition of the reality singing program The Voice. His Dakar upbringing immersed him in R&B, jazz, and reggae while his mother performed traditional West African Serer songs, prompting him to pursue a recording career; he claimed victory in the Vibe Radio Urban Music contest early that year before advancing to the debut season of The Voice Afrique Francophone. Partnering with a Senegalese telecommunications company and African Victory, he issued the promotional single “Ensemble” in 2017, then contributed the track “Le Tout Puissant” to the Sunu Folk compilation the following year.
