Biography
O'Brother, based in Atlanta, Georgia, fuse exploratory impulses with thunderously heavy textures in post-rock that displays pronounced mood swings. Drawing from the approach of Sigur Rós, True Widow, and Mogwai, the group pursues a thorough examination of the quiet/loud dynamic, moving fluidly from ethereal atmospherics to shoegaze-influenced walls of sound. Their first recording appeared in 2006 as the In Comparison to Me EP; the Death of Day EP followed in 2009 and introduced the complete lineup of Tanner Merritt, Johnny Dang, Michael Martens, and Anton Dang. Extensive road work alongside Manchester Orchestra and Cage the Elephant helped the musicians refine their interplay and collective identity. Once they paused touring to document newer songs, O'Brother issued their debut full-length, Garden Window, via Triple Crown in 2011. Two years later came the sophomore album Disillusion. In 2016 the band released Endless Light, produced by Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull and Robert McDowell with longtime Manchester Orchestra engineer Brad Fisher.
