Biography
Formed initially by vocalist and guitarist Alex Anguiano as a personal outlet while he remained active in Secret Bangs, the Denton, Texas group Occult Detective Club developed into a full-fledged punk unit known for its propulsive revival style. Their approach channels the melodic thrust of the Ramones and the Jam, blending that raw drive and attitude with a precise, locked-in execution that injects fresh nervous tension into longstanding punk conventions. Following the breakup of Secret Bangs, Anguiano recruited players from the broader Texas underground, bringing bassist Tyler Shults, drummer Chris Reeves, and guitarist Andrew Messer into the fold. The quartet promptly tracked material and delivered its first album, Tortures, through Red Lounge in 2010. The next year brought a swift follow-up in the form of Crimes, issued by Alive Naturalsound Records.
