Originating from Denver, the punishing trio Of Feather and Bone fuses several subgenres within extreme metal to produce dark and ferocious sounds. The band surfaced in 2014 through two severe EPs that merged crust punk, grindcore, and enigmatic death metal. On their first release for Profound Lore in 2018, the lauded Bestial Hymns of Perversion, the musicians moved nearer to the final of those styles.

Of Feather and Bone assembled in 2012 with Alvino on bass and vocals, Dave on guitar, and Preston on drums, three players already acquainted from playing in assorted local groups. Equally rooted in hardcore, crust punk, death metal, and grindcore, they began composing as a unit, establishing fluid teamwork and drilling the material nonstop to ensure maximum tightness ahead of any studio work. Their earliest appearances arrived in 2014 via the EPs Adorned in Decay and False Healer plus a split with Reproacher. Good Fight Music issued the debut full-length Embrace the Wretched Flesh in 2015, a set of ten songs clocking in at 23 minutes that earned substantial coverage in the specialist press. Because the songs had been written the previous year, however, the musicians were already exploring new territory by the time the album appeared. Once the touring cycle ended they resumed writing with renewed focus on that direction.

The group joined the Profound Lore roster in 2018 shortly before unveiling its second album, Bestial Hymns of Perversion. Denser and weightier than the first record, it carried a thicker, death metal-inflected character. The ensemble further sharpened its punishing death metal identity on the 2020 release Sulfuric Disintegration.
