Biography
Formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the indie rock group Of God and Science began as a partnership between songwriter Matthew Dominguez and bassist Jeremy Fine, who performed at open-mike nights and rotated additional musicians in and out of the lineup. Keyboardist and guitarist Julian Martinez became the third steady member upon returning from the East Coast, where he had contributed to the film The Girls Room and collaborated with Rodeo Boy and Bright Eyes. Drummer Ryan Martino, a veteran of the Albuquerque music scene who had played with Flake, an early version of the Shins, and issued his own solo recordings including The Coloured Fields, completed the quartet in 2006. Of God and Science had earlier joined fellow local acts in establishing Detach Records in 2004. The band developed its debut album for the label throughout 2006, releasing the self-titled CD on May 1, 2007.
