Oh My God

The Chicago-based trio Oh My God, known for its eclectic style, draws musical parallels to pioneering art-rock acts including Devo, Pere Ubu, Suicide, and Frank Zappa, while its lyrics echo the clever writing style of Steely Dan. The band's lineup features Bill O'Neill handling vocals and bass, Zach Nold on drums, and Iguana on organ; it formed in 1998 after Iguana noticed O'Neill's performance at Chicago's notable Double Door venue. Among the members, only Iguana brought prior band experience from his time playing alongside the acclaimed blues harmonica artist Junior Wells throughout the mid- and late 1990s. His contributions appear on Wells' last record, the Grammy-nominated 1997 album Junior Wells: Live at Buddy Guy's Legends, as well as the 2002 release The Best of Junior Wells: Live Around the World. Through recording sessions and tours, Iguana has collaborated with artists such as Carey Bell, Koko Taylor, Otis Rush, Van Morrison, Buddy Guy, and Jeff Healey. In February 2002, the group put out its first album, The Action Album!, via the Novo label, but Nold left shortly afterward and was succeeded by Bish.
