Old Yron emerged as one of Italy’s earliest heavy metal outfits when the group began performing covers throughout Venice and its surrounding areas in 1974. Nearly ten years of playing to indifferent audiences followed before the band dissolved. Guitarist Antonio Ferrari nevertheless chose to revive the project, enlisting vocalist Julian Ceniazzo, bassist Maurizio Cavallario, and drummer Max Canini. Another largely unrewarded five-year period ensued, ending with the capture of several tracks that appeared on the limited pressing of 1,000 vinyl copies issued as the 1989 Old Yron EP. The recordings’ inaccessibility and substandard production quality failed to generate any forward momentum, leading every member except founding guitarist Ferrari to depart. Ferrari continued sporadic activity over the following decades until he persuaded Shadow Kingdom Records to issue the 1989 material on CD.
