One Way

Originally known as the Soul Partners, the ensemble later adopted the name One Way. Its founding members consisted of Al Hudson, Alicia Myers, guitarists Dave Robertson and Cortez Harris, bassist Kevin McCord, and drummers Gregory Green and Jonathan Meadows. Recordings first appeared under the billing One Way Featuring Al Hudson before the group shortened its name. MCA served as the label home from 1980 to 1988, during which the act delivered reliable performances without attaining major stardom. Strong command of both brisk dance tracks and convincing romantic ballads marked their work, though no comparable front vocalist emerged after Alicia Myers left. Five Top Ten R&B hits resulted, the largest being “Cutie Pie,” which climbed to number four in 1982. A move to Capitol took place in 1988 and yielded the album A New Beginning in 1989.
