Karl Marx, the philosopher, scholar, and architect of communism, once declared that "Religion is the opiate of the people." That concept shapes the fierce, no-compromise songwriting and recording methods of the hard-hitting Los Angeles-based industrial-goth-alternative metal outfit Opiate for the Masses, as well as the raw energy of their stage performances. Guitarist/keyboardist Jim Kaufman and vocalist Ron Underwood launched the group in 1999. Its roster features drummer Chris "Seven" Antonopoulos (Revolting Cocks) alongside bassist Anna K. (Revolting Cocks, Drain S.T.H.). The band issued Spore in 2005, then delivered Manifesto via the Century Media label in 2008.
