What looks like an ideal stoner rock roster in theory turns out in reality to be an alternative rock side project assembled by several figures rooted in that scene. Orquesta del Desierto unites Alfredo Hernandez of Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age with Pete Stahl of Wool and Mario Lalli of Fatso Jetson; the band's self-titled 2002 debut draws heavily from Latin rock and psychedelic pop while steering clear of the heavy guitars commonly tied to the participants' primary work.
