Osaka Popstar

John Cafiero, vocalist for the pop/punk superstar group Osaka Popstar, launched the project to blend his enthusiasm for music with his affection for cartoons, while simultaneously creating chances to perform alongside several of his own punk-rock heroes. Marky Ramone of the Ramones and Richard Hell of the Voidoids shared drumming responsibilities, Jerry Only of the Misfits played bass, and Dez Cadena of Black Flag joined Ivan Julian of Richard Hell & the Voidoids on guitar. The band issued its debut album, Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk, in 2006. Cafiero collaborated directly with cartoonists and animators John Pound, Mari-chan, and Joel Veitch to shape the cover art and the two music videos housed on the record.
